He wanted to assume state debts to equalize the financial burden of war and put America on a sound economy. He wanted to create a national bank. Time has no more power to change a man than space does. They did not deny that Scopes had broken the law. He was convicted and fined $100. Darrow was quoted as saying, "Scopes isn't on trial, civilization is on trial."
