Literary Critique Of A Modest Proposal
<view this essay>.... The idea is to breed the children of Ireland for food and then sale the carcasses to England to improve Ireland's living conditions.
Swift was writing in response to the belief that the English are taking control and destroying the Irish. It definitely shows England as the villain.
" For this kind of commodity will not bear exportation, the flesh being of too tender a consistence to admit a long continuance in salt, although perhaps I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it."
This writing also gives equal responsibility to the Irish for their plight. Swift was extremely enraged at the passivity of the Irish pe .....

Charlie Parker At Storyville
<view this essay>.... his horn sing. Even during the slow songs of this set the solos are packed full of notes. The tempo may be slow yet the soloist fills the spaces full of notes. Examples of these are "I'll Walk Alone" and "Don't Blame Me."
A song from this set I especially like is the song "Cool Blues." It is very complex yet fun to listen to. I love to hear Parker play his horn. He really is a master. This piece is in a 12 bar blues form. There is a short intro by Charlie Parker on the sax. Then Herb Pomeroy and Parker play once through the chorus. The trumpet and sax together here sound really fabulous. The two match each other with amazing accuracy. .....

Why The Civil War Was Unavoidable
<view this essay>.... At the time, the federal government was changing in
that the northern states were becoming more populated and more powerful
politically. The two sides argued that there should be a balance of power
among the states and that each state should have the right to make their
own laws. When Lincoln was elected the Southerners felt that he would be
in favor of the North in all his decisions and not treat it equally. This
sectional difference really set the pathway for war because the southern
states soon would want to secede and seceding was a major cause of the war.

Allegory Of American Pie By Do
<view this essay>.... One such person is Don McLean. The poet behind the haunting epic song about the death of ‘danceable’ music, McLean wrote the ever popular song, "American Pie" (appendix 1). Although McLean himself won’t reveal any symbolism in his songs, "American Pie" is one of the most analyzed pieces of literature in modern society. Although not all of its secrets have been revealed, many "scholars" of the sixties will agree that the mystery of this song is one of the reasons it has become so succe .....
