The Grapes Of Wrath 3
<view this essay>.... use of extended metaphors in
intercalary chapters.
Steinbeck uses intercalary chapters to provide background for the
various themes in the novel. This effectively forshadows upcoming
events by telling of the general state of the local population in the
intercalary chapters and then narrowing it down to how it effects the
main characters of the novel, the Joads. Setting the tone of the novel
in the readers mind is another function of Steinbeck's intercalary
chapters.
In chapter three, Steinbeck emaculatly describes the long tedious
journey of a land turtle across a desolate highway. From the onset of
his journey, the t .....

Lady Macbeth
<view this essay>.... do this in the interests of Macbeth or was it to fulfil her own ambition? I would argue that it was to fulfil her own ambition because she decided straight away that murder was the best option to take without any regard to guilt, in this view I have no sympathy for because it is a sign of her inner evilness.
To commit the murder of King Duncan calls upon “…the spirits that tend on mortal thoughts…”. She evokes evil to commit the deed and loses her identity; I would then argue that if she has lost her identity then she has lost her soul and that, in my opinion, makes her a monster. This is illustrated by her willingness to “…dash the brains out…” of her baby, .....

Julius Ceaser The Importance O
<view this essay>.... He is also an honest man. He refuses to take a bribe in lines 75-78 of Act 4, Scene 3. “By any indirection: I did send to you for gold to pay my legions, which you denied me: was that
done like Cassius?” This is an honesty that gained him the respect of the people. Brutus was a naive man as well. Sincerity is often misconstrued as being naive; however, I will treat each as a separate characteristic. Brutus's naive spirit is mostly shown not in one
single action, but in th .....

Chaucers The Wife Of Bath

The Wife of Bath is essentially a conformist and though her behavior at times may seem out of hand, her needs are really quite normal. Put simply, she likes men and does not like sleeping alone. She tries hard to fulfill these needs but as far as Chaucer tells she had remained faithful to each of her five former husbands when they were alive. She flirts and is familiar with men but she nowhere does she actually advocate sex outside marriage. Lord Of The Flies, The Effects
<view this essay>.... following paragraphs.
Being on an island in the middle of the ocean, cut off the life line, of a highly civilized society, that took hundreds of years to develop. Due to the age and experience of the boys, such ideals of what it takes to be civilized are not developed to that of an adult’s. When the boys are put in a world without rules, punishment, and order, it leads to a very progressive deterioration of what they have learnt to be "civilized". Without boundaries from authority figures, the boys feel as if they can do what ever they want, or as how they put it "to have fun". In the beginning things where fine. An organized society had been formed wh .....

Imagery In Waiting For Godot
<view this essay>.... people as well as inanimate objects, and connect the dead with the living. The only rope that appears literally is the leash around Lucky's neck that Pozzo holds. In terms of the rope, the relationship between these characters is one of consistent domination. The stage directions say that "Pozzo drives Lucky by means of a rope passed round his neck." [15] Lucky is whipped often, and he is essentially the horse pulling Pozzo's carriage in a relationship that seems cruel and domineering. Yet Lucky is strangely compliant. In explaining Lucky's behavior, Pozzo says, "Why he doesn't make
himself comfortable? Let's try and get this clear. Has he not the ri .....
