Orwell's Politics And The English Language
<view this essay>.... and their
writing. Orwell states "what is above all needed, is to let the meaning
choose the word and not the other way about". Orwell feels that hackneyed
phrases and defunct metaphors allow a writer to easily and quickly compose
a piece utterly lacking in original and intelligent thought. Orwell also
cites the dangers of terms and phrases such as ‘pacification', 'transfer of
population', or 'elimination of unreliable elements' as "designed to make
lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of
solidarity to pure wind". Orwell's point is clear and his evidence is well
organized. He speaks with an earned authority on the subject and .....

<view this essay>.... are told is the truth when in reality it is not. Another way the party takes control of existence is by bringing life and death to non-existent people. One such instance is the creation of Comrade Ogilvy. Winston creates this man with the intention of pure fantasy. He makes Comrade Olgilvy a war hero and a patriot that dies in battle but in all fact this man never existed. The final way the party controls the lives of the people is through a process called vaporization. Vaporization is the process by which every record of everything you have ever accomplished is wiped out and your one-time existence is forever forgotten.
The Invasion of Privacy is also .....

A Separate Peace
<view this essay>.... I felt a familiar twinge of jealousy. From that day on I had a secret goal to achieve higher marks than my friend. I can not remember when this rivalry ended, but I do know that it is normal behavior.
Each person feels rivalry or competition to other humans, for the majority of their lifetime. Had Romeo not decided to exact revenge on Tybalt, perhaps the Capulets might have accepted him as a son. This would mean that Romeo and Juliet would not have had to hide their love for each other. Tybalt, indeed, had a large effect on the lives of Romeo and Juliet, by killing Mercutio.
Another minor character thought to have shaped the destinies of Romeo and Juliet is Paris. In Act 3, Scene 5, Lady Capulet announces that Juliet is to marry Paris. "The County Paris, at Saint Peter's ch .....

The American Dream 2
<view this essay>.... or fame. But one thing never changes about the American Dream; everyone desires something in life and everyone, somehow, strives to get it. Personal dreams symbolize the larger American Dream where all have the opportunity to get what they want.
The American Dream is to be able to do whatever you want. In other words, freedom. The main difference between the Unite States and other countries is the amount of freedom that Americans have compared to others. If a person were to badmouth the government in other countries, they would be jailed or even put to death. In the U.S., people have the freedom of speech. Take for example, Allen Ginsburg’s poem, R .....

The Tatyana Caste
<view this essay>.... about the same year as The Lady of Shalott. I will omit discussing the poem's popular critical interpretation concerning "the conflict between the artist's own sensual vision and his need to experience life directly"4 – I'll rather concentrate on my individual, rather alienated thoughts and feelings arised during the reading, and I will not go into Arthurian considerations, either.
Concerning both the subject of a yearning, introverted young lady and the bleak solution, Tennyson's poem may be readily compared to two other, albeit larger scale, masterpieces of the early 1830's – Balzac's "Eugenie Grandet" and, even more notably, Pushkin's "Onegin .....
