In today's world it seems that class is still a huge part of the world order, and moreover it seems that there will always be the rich and poor, the owner and the worker. This is even demonstrated by the literature of our time and that of other era's, such as the play "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde. In this play Wilde display's the class structure with a different and interesting twist. He makes a reflection on the society with his own sense of humor, but however it still leaves a very good opportunity to make a Marxist critique about the way the class structure influences the play. He l .....

Brave New World - The Conflict Between Mond And The Savage
<view this essay>.... The people in this world are nothing. They are objects! Worse than objects! The way that Henry Ford produced cars are the way this world is producing things that are barely humans. All problems that occur can be "solved by standard Gammas, unvarying Deltas, uniform Epsilons. Millions of Identical twins. The principle of mass production at last applied to biology." Mass production of humans. This is one of the principle issues - treating humans like nothing, a "cell" in the "social body". Even as children they are spoken of in terms of mass production, when "the infants were unloaded".
If mass production of humans is harsh, their whole world is summe .....

This movie presents an adaptation in which Petruccio tames Katherine, but leaves it open for the viewers to interpret whether or not Katherine is just acting. The other example I am using is a movie called 10 Things I Hate About You. This movie is a 1999 adaptation of the . Although the directors have changed almost every part of the Shakespearean play, the underlying story is mostly the same. Kat and Patrick are thrown together, and it becomes Patrick's job to tame Kat. In this adaptation, both Kat and Patrick learn and change from each other. Though there are many adaptations and interpretations of Katherine .....

Edgar Allen Poe

Daniel Hoffman reiterates Allan Tate's position that, aside from his atavistic employment of moral terminology, Poe writes as though "Christianity had never been invented." (Hoffman 171)
Poe did offer to posterity one tale with a moral. Written in 1841 at the dawn of Poe's most creative period, Poe delivers to his readers a satirical spoof, a literary Bronx cheer to writers of moralistic fiction, and to critics who expressed disapprobation at finding no discernible moral in his works. The tale "Neve .....

The Heart Of The Savage In The
<view this essay>.... atmosphere in the play. It complicates the relationship between Caliban and Prospero for although Prospero claims to own his savage his savage speaks not like one who is owned.
Caliban from his first appearance in the play speaks with a remarkable eloquence despite his deformed image, "As wicked dew as e'er my mother brushed/ With raven's feather from unwholsome fen/ Drop on you both!" (1.2.324-326). These lines show how Caliban speaks in the same eloquent tongue that Prospero speaks with. His lines are long and his words are filled with imagery: "wucked dew", "unwholesome fen", "raven's feather".Caliban doesn't in the play ever seem to be at a loss for .....

New Terror
<view this essay>.... has the authority to be a threat. This is a disgusting amount of pressure to apply not only on the shoulders of governments, but on the average man, woman and child. In this essay, I shall address the issues of domestic terrorism, biological terrorism as the future element in tactic, and conclude with American policy change recommendations.
Columbine high school, the lowest common denominator for any modern day terrorist attack, and subsequently, it is the most eye opening event since the Oklahoma City bombing. Shakespeare And Frost - Masters Of Their Trade
<view this essay>.... with.
Frost’s On a Tree Fallen Across the Road, includes major metaphysical and existentialist themes that are clearly portrayed by the poet, Frost, in a story about travellers who’s journey has been bared by a hurdle, represented by a fallen tree.
"The tree the tempest with a crash of wood,
Thrown down in front of us is not to bar
Our passage to our journeys end for good."
The first three lines of this stanza already expose this existentialist message. When read literally we see a group of travellers whose passage has been impeded by a tree which has fallen across the path of these travellers, however when we read deeper into the passage we .....
