.... more I enjoy a book, the faster it goes by for me. Now back to finding a plot. What I liked especially about this book was it’s linear time line. There wasn’t that much jumping around in time. Everything came after everything else. The book is divided into three basic sections: Life before the river, life on the river, and life after the river. The river has it’s crooks and bends and the plot following them. The river as a symbol in the book is great. Life’s ups and life’s down are well represented in the river. This quote in the poem foreshadows an appreciation of paradox for the reader since the speaker is talking of a timeless world that does not exist. The speaker tells the mistress how long his love will grow, and how vast it will become. He changes his tone after this stanza in order to effectively explain why he is unable to love her in such a manner: "But at my back I always hear / Time's wingéd chariot hurrying near; / And yonder all before us lie / Deserts of vast eternity" (21-24). .....

He was always concerned with what was right, and proper. But Phineas changes all that in him, and rather quickly too. When Finny decides to skip dinner and wrestle instead, Gene becomes confused, but goes along with his every word, and action.
