Brave New World Vs Reality
<view this essay>.... It illustrates how like our world when something upsets us instead of trying to solve the problem we use drugs to mask them.
Linda's addiction to soma is also an illustration of the similarities of drug abuse between our two worlds. Linda's return to Brave New World after many years brings her to the abuse of soma. She uses it as an escape from reality. Some of us use drugs to escape from the harshness and the tough brutality of reality. We always dream of the perfect utopia and expect our world to transform into it. Some of us always look for the easy way out and drugs allow us that.
A further similarity of Brave New World to us, is when John is in the h .....

Invisible Man
<view this essay>.... a sense of identity and self-reliance, something we all want and can relate to. There are two aspects in the novel, it’s just not about prejudice, but it also the search for identity. I’m glad I got to read such an intriguing novel. I will always remember the moment I read the first line of the book (not including the preface). Kae and I were sitting in the big couch chairs at Barnes and Noble trying to get our summer reading done. It took me forever to get through the preface, but as soon as I read the first line of chapter one, I interrupted Kae to read it to her. "It goes a long way back, some twenty years. All my life I had been looking for somet .....

Persuasive Speaking
<view this essay>.... you walk to the front of a class and quietly ask for some
attention, odds are no one will even notice you. If you walk up in front
of a class and scream "EVERYONE SHUT-UP!", you'll probably notice a slight
difference in how much attention you'll get. Though, screaming may get you
some attention for the moment, no one likes to be yelled at and they will
eventually lose interest in what you are talking about and continue with
whatever they were doing before you interrupted them. To keep people's
attention you have to talk in language that they understand, and find a
compromise between shouting at them and quietly asking for attention.
After you get an audienc .....

The Women Of Shakespear
<view this essay>.... his eagerness to join the combat. Lady Montague in response to her husband’s attempts to provoke Capulet tells him that he will not take a single step toward their enemy. This scene even though not exclusively between women, gives a look into the actual power these women had over their husbands. It also demonstrates that the women did not have the same animosity towards each other as the men had. These women did not adhere to any limitations based on gender in this scene, since they both spoke their mind in the company of men.

18th Century Literature
<view this essay>.... by wit and elegance influenced by French
classical taste. This period pertained to traditional values and "wit". The
Diary of Samuel Pepys written by Samuel Pepys and A Journel of the Plague Years
by Daniel Defoe are just a few examples of literary works from the Restoration
Period. The Diary of Samuel Pepys is also an example of journalistic fiction.
In the excerpts from Pepys' diary, he shows the historical background and

Shakesphere
<view this essay>.... part of this equation is that the identical twin brothers have identical twin servants that were split up at birth in the same fashion. Coincidentally, one servant ends up in on the city of Syracuse with one of the brothers and the other servant ends up in Ephesus with the other brother. Both sets of twin brothers had the same name. Both masters were Antipholous and both servants were Dromio. Is that not ironic?
Shakespeare also creates comedy by making fun of other characters. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Dromio of Syracuse, servant of Antipholous of Syracuse, is making fun of a woman who thought that he was the other Dromio and tried to "jump h .....

Killer Angels
<view this essay>.... Lee and James Longstreet and some of the other men who fought there. … I have not consciously changed any fact."[pg.xiii]
Historical and military authors often find it tempting to display their research and learning ability by filling each paragraph with mindless babble. Michael Shaara tells the story with vivid emotions. He makes the reader feel like they were there in the camps, under the artillery, behind the stone wall, marched, bled, and prayed that Lee would not order the charge. Michael Shaara takes you there, as soldiers saw the war and army life. He showed the true sorrow and terror. "Yet you learn to love it. Isn't that amazing? Long marches an .....

First Impressions May Be Deceiving
<view this essay>.... the UW-Fieldhouse and mistake it as a barn instead of a basketball arena.
So too, the Karrmann Library can be easily mistaken for a bank as you come
upon it from the exterior.
The first feature about the Elton S. Karrmann Library that makes it
seem as if it were a bank is the solid construction of the library. Much
like the construction of a bank, the library was also constructed with
security and protection in mind. Also, the impressive exterior of the
library resembles that of a modern bank. The concrete support pillars not
only add strength but also give the library this impressive look of a bank.
These light white-grayish, square pillars a .....
