.... a civilized society with a regular tea time. Instead, they wanted to survive and have fun at the same time. While the boys were having fun, and hunting down the pigs for food, all the boys, with an exception of Ralph, Piggy, and Simon have become uncivilized savages. As the chosen leader of the boys, Ralph had to maintain his sense of order and civilization, which he has accomplished. Since the beginning of the novel, all Ralph wanted was to get rescued from the island, and go back to his home. At the beginning of the novel, he talks about his father, who happens to be a "commander in a navy" (p. 8), in such a way hoping that he will somehow finds the .....

.... of poverty. The Cunningham family was one of the poorest in Maycomb County. "Not exactly. The Cunninghams are country folks, farmers, and the crash hit them hardest." (Lee, 21) He, like others during this time period were suffering from The Great Depression, and unfortunately there was nothing he could do about it. Although the Cunninghams are poor, that doesn't mean they appreciate help from others. In fact they are embarrassed to take charity. The Cunninghams are too proud to take anything without paying or working for it. "Your shamin' him, Miss Caroline. Walter hasn't got a quarter at home to bring you, and you can't use any stovewood." (21) .....

.... doing a short routine, Mark is pulled aside by Pan. Pan tells Mark he can fix his wushu but if he fails it will be Pan who looses face. People will loose respect for the greatest martial arts expert who couldn't teach a foreigner. During one of the class discussions Mark had with his students, the topic of kissing was brought up. Mark wanted to know why public sighs of affection were so rare in China. Mark said the only time he had seen two Chinese people kissing was when a mother kissed her infant child. Children any older than five should not be kissed. The students explained that showing affection was just not done, it wasn't normal. At the end of clas .....

.... finds a stick of gum in a hole in a tree by the Radley’s yard. Later on Scout and Jem find more gifts in the tree, but then suddenly Mr. Radley fills the hole with cement and the gifts stop. After school is over Dill comes back to Maycomb. Scout, Jem, and Dill continue to try to get Boo to come out of the house, but with no luck. Then they decide that on Dill’s last night in Maycomb they would crawl under the fence in the back yard of the Radley place and take a peek into one of the windows. This plan backfires when Mr. Radley comes out with a shot gun and fires into the air. While running away from Mr. Radley Jem gets his pants caught while trying to get back .....

When John meets Bernard and tells him of his and Linda's lives on the reservation much of their rejection from the reservation comes to light. It apparently started with Linda having relations with many of the native men and then being beaten by native women for doing so. This is one reason for John's dislike of his mother and shows one of the stronger conflicts between the old and new worlds. Another time where the conflict of promiscuity comes up is between John and Lenina who trie .....

.... just a tree in the background. The two friends Vladimir and Estragon talk aimlessly and complain about life. They consider hanging themselves, but realize before they do that they should consult with Godot. Who or what Godot symbolizes remains a mystery, but their whole existence seems to be to wait for Godot. They meet a couple of fellows: Pozzo, an upper-class man, mistaken by Vladimir and Estragon as Godot, and Pozzo's slave, Lucky. After they leave, a messenger from Godot arrives and states simply that Godot will arrive tomorrow, same place, same time. They consider leaving, but do not. The second act is almost an exact repeat of the first, but Lu .....
