Oedipus Trilogy Analysis
<view this essay>.... society, had the need to explain everything. Their myths were a way of explaining such things. They had a series of gods and muses and fates to explain why things happened the way it happened. They believed in a force greater than their own controlling their every move. Sophocles took their beliefs and used the Oedipus Trilogy to explore the irony of how the Fates work more closely.
The Oedipus plays are separated into three main plays: Oedipus Rex (The King), Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone. The story starts in Oedipus Rex, and the city of Thebes in which he is ruler is in plague. The city calls upon the ruler Oedipus to find a way to stop the plague. At this .....

The Worth Of Huckleberry Finn
<view this essay>.... humanity during the era
can be found in the section of the book when Huck finds himself in the
middle of a feud between the Grangerfords and the Wilkses. In this passage
of the book, Mark Twain puts Huck in a situation where there is no thought
or reason. This fact is pointed out when Huck asks what started the feud,
and nobody can tell him because they don't know, yet they continue to kill
each other. The point which Twain drives toward in this point of the book
is that people are basically sheep, a point reiterated later when a large
group of people goes to lynch a man, and end up leaving quietly without
doing anything. This summarizes the basic view Mar .....

Essential Writings: Review
<view this essay>.... settled in India; the English only
colonized. Later in "Settlement in India by Europeans" (1832)
Rammohan argued that the benefits to India of controlled
settlement and landownership in India would greatly outweigh
the liabilities (IV, 20).
If one looks at the last sentence of the previous paragraph, "Rammohan Ray preferred the company of learned shastric brahmans," one's puzzlement with the previously quoted paragraph only increases. What is the logical connection between this paragraph and the previous one? Where is the transition that will link the two? Also, the paragraph itself, obviously, is somewhat compressed; the author has not .....

The Influence That Hsi Yu Chi
<view this essay>.... his travels, the people he had met and the differences he observed from kingdom to kingdom. His book was called 'Hsi Yu Chi' (The Record of a Journey To The West). Little did the Tang Dynasty Monk realize that his book would father one of the most well known
works of Chinese literature. Eleven centuries later, another edition of 'His Yu Chi' was written. When it was released, the new 'Hsi Yu Chi' was considered as a disgrace to the community of writers. This ludicrous work which lacked philosophical depth and profundity was not only a satire of the Chinese Imperial System and Chinese bureaucracy, but it was an insult to the two most dominant religions at the t .....

To Kill A Mockingbird: Courage
<view this essay>.... neighborhood when Miss Maudie's house caught fire, they cared not that
they might get hurt when they ran into her house to retrieve her belongings.
Another example of physical courage was that of Atticus standing up against a
mob. The last example of courage was Arthur Radley fighting Bob Ewell and
saving the children.
In the novel we saw several example of moral courage. In my opinion
this is the best type of courage because it shows the character of person. The
first display of this courage was Mr. Cunnigham's constant payment of his debt
to Atticus; he had the courage to take something into this neighborhood. The
next display of moral courage was .....

Death Of A Salesmen: Freedom And Willy’s Dream
<view this essay>.... worse he gives the woman stockings.
“WILLY: Never mind! He’s going to give you those points I’ll see
to it!
BIFF: He wouldn’t listen to you…you gave her mama’s stockings.
WILLY: I gave you an order!
BIFF: Don’t touch me you-liar!
WILLY: Apologize for that!
BIFF: You fake! You phony little fake! You fake!”(p. 121)
There are two things of significance in this scene. First the stockings, Willy gives his wife stockings, which are very expensive, it is a symbol of love to Biff. He sees his father giving them to someone else and he knows that his father isn’t all that he seems. He is giving his love away to someone other than Linda.
The second thing .....

Huck Finn
<view this essay>.... He displays this throughout the story. Some examples of this are when he decides to take Jim to freedom and when he decides to tell the people about the King and the Duke's plan. 's character is mainly influenced by one of his friends, Tom Sawyer.
Tom Sawyer is similar to Huck, in the way that he is always getting into trouble. Tom sees everything as a game and as an adventure, This sometimes makes things more difficult than they actually are. An example of this is when they are planning to rescue Jim. Tom wants to dig Jim out with a spoon and make this spectacular escape and Huck decides bake some tools used for escaping into a pie and get Jim out that .....
