Scarlet Letter- Guilty Heart
<view this essay>.... development is conscience. As conscience continues to consume all that is his very essence, the struggling Arthur Dimmesdale, illustrates Hawthorne's theme of the negative affects of a sin-stained conscience and a life of secrecy in The Scarlet Letter.
In this story, an anguished Arthur Dimmesdale struggles to pacify his conscience and withhold the secret of his sin from being known. He did not reveal to anyone the revenge he felt in his heart, and he tried to keep anyone from realizing that his revenge was slowly taking over his life. Nathaniel Hawthorne was successful in writing a novel that accentuated sin and guilt interchangeably, while revealing to th .....

that can be interpreted in many ways, depending on the reader, but what
I believe to be the meaning, that the author was trying to send across,
was to simply share the story of three sisters, who no matter how far
misunderstandings, quarrels, or rages stretch the bonds between them,
the sisters always bounce back to the core of their family which is
love. Though they go through many hardships, including sibling
conflicts, personal problems and the inevitable death of their
grandfather, through everything, family proves to be a very important
key factor in their difficult lives. The bonds formed between the
members of your own family is one o .....

the reader is informed of all the peculiar habits of Fogg that Passepartout
had to support.

It is apparent that within the GATTACA institution, there is a definite discrimination against the genetic underclass; that naturally born. Director Niccol is mocking the present-day view of prejudice and racism. In the future of GATTACA, this prejudice is referred to as genoism - genetic discrimination. Racism is a less specific form of genoism, and although such discrimination is outlawed, the laws are unenforceable because in this dystopian societ .....

High Fidelity
<view this essay>.... the songs he mentions as his favorites or with significant meaning, relate to Rob’s life in that they have a lot to do with loneliness. One song in particular that Rob wants to serve as his eulogy, “Many Rivers to Cross,” by Jimmy Cliff touches upon aspects of his life, such as loneliness, abandonment and anger. The title, which is repeated throughout the song, relates strongly to Rob due to the fact that it contains the word “cross” in it. Having just broken up with his girlfriend, coming to grips with his fear of commitment and finding unhappiness with his occupation, Rob has just crossed many boundaries in his life. He has taken on a sense of depression, wh .....

Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird
<view this essay>.... a child’s mind rather than an adult reminiscing about childhood.
For example, Scout’s revelation at the end of the novel. while she was standing on the Radley porch, was clearly beyond a child’s capability. Most adults would be too traumatized by the experience in the forest even to be lucid, let alone come to the deep philosophical epiphany that she reached about Boo. Instead of a character revelation from Scout, it comes across more as a direct message from the author, as if she had temporarily possessed Scout’s mind.
As good as the novel is, this uneven characterization happens throughout. Scout repeatedly discovers ideas that are more suited to someone m .....

The Color Purple: Real Outcome Of Economic Achievement And Alternative Economic View
<view this essay>.... and
the letter describing Celie's economic stability and happiness (found in
last letter), we will have established a clear distinction between the real
and alternative worlds in relation to the economic situations presented
throughout the novel.
Manners and customs in the "real" generally work to maintain order, decorum,
and stability. Within the novel the reality was that blacks had to work
for whites on whatever terms were available. When using manners and
customs to depict the real world of the novel, it is evident we are
examining an external world based in a society where the white oppressor
governs the oppressed black populace. The economic real .....
