Tradition: Lost And Kept
<view this essay>.... ritual. The events that follow will
show how the tribe's customs will be kept and lost.
Tradition is shown in many parts of the story. The first example of
tradition is evident in the scene where the Chief speaks to the ancestors to
change the sacrifice; he loves his only daughter dearly and does not wish her to
die. Unfortunately, he could not abandon his position as Chief and let the
people die from the drought either. In the tribe, it was customary for the Chief
to have several wives and children. The Chief married five wives and the fifth
one brought him a daughter. Another tradition that was shown in the story was
the explanation of how Oganda ( .....

Ethan Frome-comparison Of Matt
<view this essay>.... of the people of Starkfield. Zeena stays at home all day unless she has one of her frequent “sicknesses,” in which case she might make a visit to the doctor. Otherwise she “goes to bed immediately after supper” every night, which is hardly an exciting life. This is a glaringly obvious variance from Mattie’s personality.
Also, Mattie is much more compassionate than Zeena. An example of
Zeena’s cold-heartedness is seen when she fires Mattie, her own relative, giving Mattie nowhere to go and no job skills on which to survive. Most people would not do this to their own kin. Mattie, on the other hand, is a very compassi .....

suddenly traded his innocence for guilt.
Charlie grew up having a paradise-like world where he supposedly had
many friends. His lifelong ambition, to become smart. When the chance came
he took the offer readily, unprepared for the changes in his life it would

Lord Of The Flies: Golding Reduces The Power Of His Message
<view this essay>.... and Ralph's problems, life would have been easy, and
the `darkness of man's heart' would not have been conveyed to the reader.
Jack shows `the darkness' and if he and Ralph had just been friends, there
would never have been an opportunity for Jack to show this darkness which
lurked beneath the surface.
Golding also uses the dead pilot conveniently against the boys - the way in
which he is caught in the trees just in the right position to be caught by
the wind and look like the beast and the way the wind picks up after Simon
has let him down from the trees and carries him out to sea, so that the
other boys cannot see that it wasn't a beast. The author uses .....

The Crucible: John Proctor
<view this essay>.... convince everyone that the girls were lying, was an instance of bravery
because children were thought of as the vice of god and they were pure of
blemishes. Proctor also fought the court trying to keep them from
convicting his spouse even though nobody else would dare to do. Another
quality that made him brave was when he confessed to the court that he had
an affair with Abigail just to save his life.
That John Proctor is brave, is obvious but ha can also be very
extreme at some times. An instance of Proctor's extremity was when he
shouted, "I say - I say - God is dead!"(Pg. 119), and that he will see all
of them burn in hell. That statement implied t .....

Comparison Of Kafka's "Metamorphosis" And Dali's "The Metamorphosis Of Narcissus"

objectively evident...as that of the exterior world of phenomenal
reality."1
The rich landscape, seems to be limitless in detail. Dali rendered
every detail of this landscape with precise accuracy, striving to make his
paintings as realistic as possible.
In Greek mythology, Narcissus was a beautiful young youth, who fell
in love with his own reflection, and then drowned while trying to embrace
himself. His body was never recovered, but a flower, which was named after
him was. The left side of this painting shows the kneeling Narcissus,
outlined by the craggy rocks of what could only be Cape Creus's. On the
right side of the painting, the scene .....

Ragtime
<view this essay>.... does expose and examine many issues that people tended to ignore like the impoverished immigrant working class, racism, and feminism. The emphasis Doctorow places on these issues makes it clear that he thought, “…America is a mistake, a gigantic mistake.” (33).
The period in American history at the turn of the 20th century is commonly referred as the Gilded Age. This is in reference to the increased size of the lower classes and the emergence of the elite capitalist as a new hegemonic class that possessed riches and power that were practically undreamt of. This era saw a dramatic increase in the size of the lower classes as immigr .....
