Mavis Gallant's Bernadette
<view this essay>.... manner. The relationship between the Knights
and Bernadette is the base of the story. These three people relate to each
other in an intimidating fashion and this is what makes Bernadette's
predicament so difficult to overcome. As well, the family ties between Nora
and Robbie are explored. Their family relationship is one based on dependence,
and without this one factor the connection between the two results in
fearfulness of being alone. Fear has a way of attacking our judgment and this

Prophecy In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451
<view this essay>.... of examples that demonstrate degeneration in simple aspects of life such as relationships and compassion. The very factors that make us "human" seem to be the elements attacked in this future society. In his novel, Bradbury claims that technological growth has managed, by suppressing creativity, to rob society of its humanity.
Bradbury provides many examples that lead the reader to believe that there has been a serious depletion of family values in Montag's society. The most provocative example of this is the discussion between Montag, his wife, and her friends. Mrs. Phelps, when asked by Montag how her children are, abruptly answers saying "No one in h .....

the inner world, creates an ignorance that the state refuses to attend. It
is widely known the two factors for the makeup of a civilization lies in

How Is Tension Built Up In “The Monkeys Paw”
<view this essay>.... in his possession. The fact that the paw is given movement and a sort of life as wishes are made suggests possible disaster. For instance the piano crashes, the man cries out and the paw moves when the wish is made.
The paw is clearly an omen, a bad omen. For instance, the wish of the original owner was for death. This clearly points out that the other two wishes may have caused unhappiness. Also Sergeant Morris says; “I warn you of the consequences.” Clearly here, however innocent the wish, Morris knows that it will end badly. “Don’t blame me for what happens.”
The major coincidence centres around the two hundred pounds. “How could £200 hurt you?” says Mrs Wh .....
