The town square is described as being “between the post office and the bank;” every normal town has these buildings, which are essential for day-to-day functioning. The townspeople also establish a normal, comfortable setting for the story. The children are doing what all typical kids do, playing boisterously and gathering rocks. The woman of the town are doing what all stereotypical females do, “exchang[ing] bits of gossip.” The men are being average males by chatting about boring day-to-day tasks .....

In the novel papa took a risk not because he thought he had to but he did it out of love. Many white people were gathered together and about to hang TJ because RW and Melvin framed him for robbing a store. Out of love for TJ Papa set the cotton field on fire to set up a distraction. The distraction worked but the novel isn’t clear on saying exactly if he lives or dies, but I think it leads more towards to TJ dying.

Billy Bud
<view this essay>.... an absence of the emotion guilt? Here we have a story about two murders. Billy kills Claggart and Vere (Although indirectly, the decision is ultimately his) kills Budd. Neither of the murderers show guilt in the form of remorse. For a narrative that tries to put the reader in a moral and ethical position, isn't it ironic that the characters themselves don't exhibit what would seem most ethical?
Immediately following the fatal blow to Claggart, There is no outlet of Billy's emotion; whatever emotion he may be experiencing is not accounted for. This is not the behavior one would expect from someone who had just accidentally killed someone else. On trial Billy has .....
