Reoccurring Themes And Symbols
<view this essay>.... “The Minister’s Black Veil,” “Young Goodman Brown”, and The Scarlet Letter. One particularly noticeable theme in Hawthorne’s work is that of secret sin (Newman 338). In the “Young Goodman Brown”, this theme is evident when young Mr. Brown dreams that he is led by the devil to a witching party. There he sees all of the honorable and pious members of society, including his minister and the woman who taught him his catechisms, communing with the prince of darkness. Upon awakening, the hypocritical nature of his once admired neighbors and the realization of his own secret sin causes him to become terribly disillusioned (Colacurcio 396). The same thing happens .....

Fahrenheit 451
<view this essay>.... the changes that he made in his life. The book , set in the future, shows rules that the world today would think of as "outrageous laws". The most apparent law shown in the novel is that citizens of the country are unauthorized to own any type of book, or medium that expresses knowledge or the opinions of people. Although that this law is very well known in the land, it is often broken by those who refuse to give up reading books for entertainment or religious purposes. What the modern world's definition of a Fireman is today does not match the definition of a Fireman in this novel. Firemen in are employed with the sole purpose of starting fires as oppose .....

As the case may be, the necessity for settling on that many of whom gradually go on to seed with appreciative escape provoke my strive for a sense of belonging. Initially, I wish to overcome my birth rite as an orphan in Victorian time. At Gateshead it becomes apparent that I possess a fiery temper saying to my aunt, “You think I have no feelings, and that I can do without one bit of love or kindness, but I cannot live so and you have no pity” (Bronte 68). Here I make my first declaration of independence, contending that I will no longer be a secondary member. The love that gives desire and power which sustains life, is obvious by th .....

Beowulf
<view this essay>.... today. Anglo-Saxon warriors
knew that they only had two options when they entered battle; either they live to fight
again, or they die honorably amounts their own. Either way was determined by a higher
power. The sense of an uncontrollable death left the Anglo-Saxon people without respect
for other lives, evident in the amount of fighting in Beowulf, and also an inner gloom,
“evident in the somber tone of Beowulf,” (from the text). Recently, philosophy has broken
away from the more religious idea of destiny and moved toward a more logical aproach to
life. Obviously, death is still inevitable, but logically, the future should be altered with
each decision. Man .....

<view this essay>.... name conveyed such respect on Miss Emily, that she was virtually untouchable by anything except her own personal tragic circumstances.
She escaped the consequences of poverty virtually by being who she was. To avoid being “poor Emily” after her lover apparently refused to marry, she took matters into her own hands purchasing Arsenic. She offered no explanation for its use even though the druggist explained to her that the .....
