Aristotles Notion Of Body And Soul
<view this essay>.... is born to slavery. For him slavery is “both expedient and right”, because they let the bodily pleasures, wants and lusts overrule rationality. The people who do let the soul rule over the body are in the ‘perfect state’. Because they succeed in seeing the grand scheme of things, that reason is more important than appetites, they are fit to be the rulers of the slaves.
My opinion on Aristotle’s notion
The superiority of the soul over the body is not as absolute as Aristotle puts it. Most certainly there are many times when the soul is more important than the body. For example, a man sees a very beautiful, married, woman. His body .....

John Coltrane
<view this essay>.... was technically and imaginatively equal to both; as a composer he was superior, although he has not received the recognition he deserves for this aspect of his work.
In composition he excelled in an astonishing number of forms – blues, ballads, spirituals, rhapsodies, elegies, suites, and free-form and cross-cultural works. The closest contemporary analogy to Coltrane's relentless search for possibilities was the Beatles' redefinition of rock from one album to the next. Yet the distance they traveled from conventional hard rock through sitars and Baroque obligatos to Sergeant Pepper psychedelia and the musical shards of Abbey Road seems short by comparison .....

(Davis 60-61).
As a child John impressed his teachers as having an uncontrollable

into fights with older boys who tried to take his lunch money. He soon got
the reputation as one you didn't cross for fracturing an older boys skull
in a classroom. Gotti began running with smalltime gangs at the age of
twelve, after noticing a mobster named Albert Anastasia. He soon joined a
street gang called the Fulton-Rockaway Boys (Davis 61-63).
At the age of 16 Gotti dropped out of school, and began to model

Washington Irving 2
<view this essay>.... stories, for example, The Alhambra, are one of these types, which objectively seeks to deal with real places, events, or persons. The second type of stories are impressionist stories, which are tales that shape and give meaning to the narrator. They are less objective and more subjective, giving them less of a realistic point. An example of this is Rip Van Winkle, a story about a man who runs from his abusive wife and finally gets away and falls asleep, for twenty years.
Other stories Irving accounts for, are: Bracebridge Hall, Tales of a Traveler, History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus, A Chronicle of Granada, The Crayon Miscellany, Astori .....

Galileo Gallilei
<view this essay>.... thought that Galileo should be able to provide for the family when he died, and his sister would need a dowry soon. Galileo had other plans, and in early 1583 he began spending his time with the mathematics professors instead of the medical ones. When his father learned of this, he was furious and traveled 60 miles from Florence to Pisa just to confront his son with the knowledge that he had been “neglecting his studies.” The grand duke’s mathematician intervened and persuaded Vincenzio to allow Galileo to study mathematics on the condition that after one year, all of Galileo’s support would be cut off and he was on his own.
In the spring of 1585, Gal .....
